Confederation of Republics of Cyprus

Possible future:

The election of a new leftist government of Turkey improves Turkish relations with Greece. Both countries, United Kingdom and representatives of both sides of Cyprus elaborate a plan in order to reunification of the island that is ratified by a referendum. It consists of:

• Republic of Cyprus becomes Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus with a new flag, incorporating United Nations Buffer Zone and Kokkina/Erenköy enclave, but renouncing territory under control of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
• Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are recognised as sovereign entities that are joined in the new Confederation of Republics of Cyprus, they renounce becoming an independent state or joining another country (Greece or Turkey); Greece and Turkey renounce annexing any part of the island.
  
• Whole Nicosia is separated from both republics and claimed confederal territory and capital city of the confederation, capital cities of Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are moved to Limassol (Λεμεσός in Greek) and Kyrenia (Girne in Turkish), respectively.
  
• The Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia become part of Cypriot soverignty, as part of Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus, although they are occupied by Greek soldiers; Greece and Turkey reserve the right to have soldiers in Cyprus in order to guarantee the sovereignty of each republic.
  
• United Kingdom commits itself to make reparations to people who was damaged by events of 1974, as payment for illegitimate use of military bases for decades.
  
• Almost every executive and legislative power remains into the hands of each republic but confederal institutions are created as supreme power of the country.
  
• Confederal laws must be ratified by parlaments of each republic in order to come into force.
  
• Two out of every three members of all confederal institutions must come from Greek-Cypriot community and the other one from Turkish-Cypriot community.
  
• First President of the Confederation must be a member of Greek-Cypriot community but, after two years, he/she will be replaced by a member of Turkish-Cypriot community who will be President during one year. He/she will be replaced by a Greek-Cypriot person for two years, and he/she also replaced by another Turkish-Cypriot person for one year, and so on.
  
• The new flag of Confederation of Republics of Cyprus (shown next to the title) incorporates red and blue stripes representing Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot communities.
